What is it?
The Balloon Biathlon is a one day fund raising challenge in the beautiful Wye Valley and is open to all. It consists of a mountain bike ride up and around Symonds Yat Rock followed by a 10 mile canoe safari along the River Wye. This will be demanding but achievable for most people, even for those with currently low fitness levels. We’re particularly calling on those who might need a push towards a fitness drive in 2023 and for whom a challenge might be just what’s required to create a bit of purpose and positivity in their lives. Peppered throughout the day will be opportunities to hear from and speak to James Shone who’ll be participating in the entire event, accompanied by the rest of the I Can & I Am team. We’ll help with all aspects of planning and training and provide guidance on fundraising. IT’S FREE TO JOIN AND ALL EQUIPMENT CAN BE PROVIDED.  There’s no minimum amount you need to raise. We have a maximum of 40 places.

What are we raising money for?
Our I Can & I Am double decker bus has had an overwhelming reception since its launch in 2021. The time has come to add a second bus and this fundraiser will provide a much needed contribution towards this goal. In 2022 alone we worked with 46 schools and welcomed 5,081 pupils on board the bus. Wherever we go, the feedback is unfailingly positive and proves that we are serving a very real need in tackling some of the many challenges faced by young people today. Help us to do more of this great work and continue to inflate balloons of self-belief for even more young people.

Dates and times
The challenge takes place on Saturday 13th May 2023. The day will start early and we’ll provide details of nearby accommodation options for the Friday night if required. We’ll finish the challenge with a celebratory evening meal, a talk from James and a night spent in some simple, rustic accommodation in the Wye Valley.
