Believe in them!

“There is no greater power and support you can give someone than to look them in the eye, and with conviction say, ‘I believe in you.’”       Ken Poirot

Over the course of the Christmas holidays I have been away and had some really interesting chats.  One was with a female professional footballer who had played for Leeds United, Sheffield United and Birmingham City.  When we got talking in depth she shared that the success of her career she owed to one individual – they had done one thing, and that was to believe in her.  As well as having many conversations like these over the years, I have listened to a number of books by successful people and they will so often cite that it was one individual believing in them that made all the difference. I think this is a good place to start this rather extraordinary 2021 – encouraging parents, pastoral leaders and teachers to do their very best to truly believe in the individuals that they are supporting.

As well as this I would love to stress to parents and teachers that they should encourage our young people to be thankful for what they do have and can do and not to always dwell on what they don’t have in this challenging time.
