The Great Tandem Challenge 2018

James is embarking on a mammoth 230 mile fund raising tandem ride in April this year to enable him to to visit and speak to secondary school pupils, staff and parents free of charge.

His important messages are already helping hundreds of young people maintain a positive and fulfilled approach to their lives by focussing on what they can do, rather than on what they can’t.

Funds will also provide free one-to-one mentoring resources to all young people within secondary schools.

The Original Route

The tandem ride was initially going to take James from the home of Liverpool FC to Chelsea FC, accompanied by an ex pupil, Jack Chitty.

However, James has decided that he cannot complete the challenge as planned since training has shown that riding on the back of a tandem on busy roads is far more of a challenge than he initially thought.

After many conversations with friends, family and cycling experts, James has come to the conclusion that he and Jack simply do not have the experience required to complete the ride safely.

The New Schedule

However, the ride will continue but in a new format! Taking place over the same proposed dates (beginning 29th April) James will cycle the full distance of 230 miles but around a cycle track instead.

He will attempt to ride up to 50 miles a day accompanied by friends and local volunteers. Still a huge feat but hopefully without the dangers of the proposed road cycle ride.

The ride takes place at Odd Down Cycle track in Bath. The tandem ride will begin on Sunday April 28th and finish on Friday 4th May.

If you are local to the Bath area and would like to be involved in either riding with James or supporting the event please let us know! Donations can be made on our Just Giving page:
