At the time of writing I have just returned from Dublin. When speaking to a large group of parents at a school there was no doubt that there was pride in the room as the Englishman stood up and addressed them. Put simply: they had beaten us (on the ruby field) on Saturday. What I’m abut to say may seem a little odd, but none the less I’m going to say it! I can’t help feeling that losing to Ireland on Saturday will, in the long run, be a good thing for England. Despite the team’s obvious excellence, there were many times in the Six Nations when we simply got through it and won (vs Wales and vs France) and because of the Scotland match we may have had an inflated view of ourselves. To have been beaten will cause the team and management to reflect, think and ultimately act on areas that need improvement. This in my opinion is always a good thing. Like I have said before, set backs can define us or develop us, it is our choice.
